Black Sheep Young Company And Their Online Engagement

This week we had our last virtual Young Company workshop so wanted to take the time to celebrate their achievements. The last few months have been a reminder of how resilient and positive young people can be ...

We hosted virtual drama workshops for our Young Company members since the beginning of lockdown. BSC wanted to ensure our members felt supported and connected during this period. It was a way for them to stay creative and feel included, especially with the closure of schools.

"BSYC online sessions have been an opportunity to connect with others during this pandemic" said Ruby who was studying for her GCSE's before lock down, "BSYC online sessions have been eye-opening and created a strong sense of productivity during lockdown" Young Company member Gauti said. "The sessions have been a good break from the boredom of this lockdown" said Sam, and Lakshya said how he thought the sessions were "fun and exciting" and something to look forward to.

Some of the creative work the group took part in included contributing to a Coronavirus Time Capsule in association with Company Three. The members filmed interesting moments, scenes and interactions based around certain themes including home life, new rituals and our favourite subject food. This footage was then edited together as a record they could keep and reflect on in the future.

We will be starting new classes in the Autumn Term we want to invite any young people between the ages of 13-18 who have a interest in collaborating with like minded new people gaining new skills and understanding of the world of theatre.

"The Young Company members are now collaborating on a new script which we hope to perform when appropriate!"

We are very cautious of the current climate and will be putting in place appropriate measures to ensure the safety of our YC members. Theatre and the arts is still well and truly alive, but we have to change and adapt. It is vital our young people can be part of this and influence the way in which theatre and the arts exists in the future.
